Summary Description

He/she will lead the company in responsibility for manufacturing, inventory, supply chain and fixed asset finance. This role leads a team but is also very hands on, the team is currently 3 individuals including cost and fixed asset accounting.  He/she is pivotal to driving visibility and transparency in to our cost per watt results, and our levers to achieve our goals.  He/she interacts with executives across operations to assure timely and accurate reporting and forecasting of our operational key metrics, financial results for both gross margin and working capital.

Responsibilities:

Overall responsibility for the annual budget, financial forecasting and financial reporting processes for manufacturing, inventory, capital and supply chain;

  • Responsible for the operating and maintenance of the Oracle based cost accounting processes and systems, including cost per watt and monthly standard cost maintenance within the ERP system. This role is responsible for all raw materials, WIP, finished goods and spare parts
    • Responsible for managing the cost model and aligning projects to key cost reductions
    • Analyze and report actual versus planned costs and associated variances
    • Build a full accounting system that can be leveraged and expanded to multiple sites as we strive to build out our capacity
    • Approval and tracking of all materials purchases
    • Ensure appropriate controls are in place, including management reserves to appropriately value inventory and assets
  • Capital equipment – we are a highly vertically integrated manufacturer, and this role will support all aspects of capital accounting
    • Help plan and document execution of equipment builds
    • Review and approve all manufacturing related capital requests
    • Reconcile fixed asset build cost variance accounting and appropriate capitalization of completed equipment
    • Assess and develop full processes for equipment change order processes to assess financial impact and cash flow
    • Manage spare parts inventory accounting, including assessment of inventory controls, valuation
  • Creation of a standard set of reporting for internal management and preparing insightful and actionable performance analyses for senior leadership
  • Cadence and process to identify and manage intra quarter changes to deliver commitment per quarter and beyondCollaborate within Finance function, across Controller and Mfg Finance and IT leads to assure that all internal metrics are aligned with company view, and that support for the external messaging is clear and appropriate. Build a high performance team and continually improving financial planning capabilities at all levels.
  • Lead and manage process improvement initiatives, profitability analyses and other special projects that span the entire company.
  • Enhance the existing budgetary reporting structure in a manner which facilitates transparency, forecast accuracy, timeliness and continuous improvement;

Required Skills, Experience and Education:

Strong financial leadership/organization skills as well as program management capabilities including ability to direct and motivate others required and ability in the use of influence and change management skills required.

Minimum 10 years of progressive manufacturing and accounting experience, with at least 5 years as a business unit or manufacturing financial leadership; strong Oracle reporting capabilities;  Strong ability to manage budgeting, forecasting and analytical functions in a dynamic environment required including ability to analyze, understand and communicate complex issues and trends required. MiaSolé is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support global manufacturing of high-volume production equipment (including thin film CIGS vacuum process tools and automated machinery), used to manufacture and test world class solar cells.

Product Development Engineer

Position Summary:

Develops new or modified process formulations, defines processing or handling equipment requirements and specifications, and reviews processing techniques and methods applied in the manufacture, fabrication, and evaluation of products. Involvement may begin at any step from pilot plant to full-scale manufacturing. Coordinates design requirement review with appropriate engineering/scientific personnel to ensure compatibility of processing methods. Compiles and evaluates test data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process or material specifications. May conceive and plan projects involving definition and selection of new concepts, equipment automation technology, and approaches in the processing or development of new or improved processes.

The Flex module development team is responsible for creating, developing, validating, and transitioning new, flexible PV product designs into production. We are exploring cutting edge module designs/materials to lower costs and improve installation methods in a variety of settings. The group serves as one of the core technology centers within Miasole and our corporate parent. This position requires a strong understanding of the fundamentals of process optimization and the ability to apply that knowledge to a variety of material types/tool sets.

Our current activities include integrating PV cells into structures that from roofing materials to transport vehicles, consumer products, wearable’s and beyond. This drives a broad range of development activities and each requires the optimization of various processes to maximize the performance of the module and production line. The ideal candidate is one who enjoys the challenge of developing processes and had a good knowledge of basic thermoplastic properties and processing behavior.  It is essential for the person to be able to independently design experiments, validate results, organize data, and present experimental results in clear written and verbal formats. Projects will involve careful upfront planning, arranging equipment access, and taking a hands-on approach to experiment execution. We are looking for someone who can manage multiple tasks, thrives in a collaborative environment, and understands the fast paced dynamic nature of the solar PV business. The candidate should be ready to work across various functional teams and understands the importance of meeting commitments while executing to a prioritized schedule.

Responsibilities:

  •  Develop and optimizing module production process techniques for new material and module designs
  • Flexible module performance characterization using IV, EL, IR, etc to understand design limits under different process conditions and prepare for advancements with next generation products
  • Ensure development processes are designed from the beginning to meet appropriate industry or government regulations
  • Conduct engineering assessments for new process equipment to support development work.
  • Conceptualize, plan, execute, and analyze experiments at laboratory to production scale with development team and maintain clear communication with all stakeholders
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to clearly describe technical status, risks, and mitigation strategies

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • Multiple process development experiences over a broad range of equipment sets (vacuum/atmospheric lamination, extrusion, roll-to-roll film processing, thermoset processing, etc)
  • Working knowledge of DOE’s and experimental statistics (JMP experience is a plus)
  • Familiar with the materials of construction for PV modules or similar products. Understanding the tradeoffs associated with flexible polymer materials is a plus.
  • Experience designing and building vacuum laminated structures is a strong benefit. This experience can come from professional, hobbyist, or academic backgrounds
  • Knowledge and experience conducting relentless analysis leading to process and cost optimization
  • Worked in an environment using a formal Product Development Process to define and then execute  new product development
  • Direct experience successfully transitioning products from development into manufacturing is desired

Senior Reliability Engineer

Senior Reliability Engineer

ABOUT THE JOB:

Photovoltaic modules must be able to withstand extreme outdoor conditions, operate safely at all times, and generate electricity reliably for decades, all with little-to-no maintenance. This long-term product durability is assessed through a combination of standardized test methods, test-to-failure programs, custom test development, failure mode analysis (FMEA) and field monitoring. The Reliability Department supports the entire organization through these activities, including advanced product design, long-term durability studies, product certification, quality monitoring, and field performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive systematic evaluation of the reliability and durability of new and existing photovoltaic module designs through standardized and specially-developed testing procedures.
  • Create and document test procedures in accordance with ISO 17025 protocols, engineer and develop new testing platforms, design and build test equipment, and conduct hands-on experiments on photovoltaic products and components.
  • Participate in assessment of reliability requirements required to release non-conforming materials.
  • Drive reliability improvement programs for complex issues.
  • Coordinate on-site reliability test schedule on an ongoing basis.
  • Actively participate in design reviews to assure long-term reliability aspects are incorporated into the design.
  • Analyze test results and present findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders, where required.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Engineer/Engineer within the Device Characterization Group is tasked with supporting new processes development and device characterization methods to improve thin film solar cell performance and reliability. This position will support Process Development and Characterization Groups in routine and advanced characterization of solar cells, materials preparation required for measurements, execution of experiments on R&D and manufacturing tools. The individual in this position will assist senior engineering/scientific personnel in experiment execution and data analysis. An ideal candidate would have experience both in characterization and processing, as well as data analysis and report generation, will be highly motivated and able to work independently. New college graduates are encouraged to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for routine sample preparation, which may require thin film deposition, cutting, masking, and wet chemical etching
  • Responsible for electrical, optical and other types of measurements on prepared samples
  • Responsible for execution of pre-defined experiments on R&D or manufacturing tools, both assisting senior engineering personnel and executing experiments on their own
  • Data analysis and report generation to communicate results to the Engineers/Scientists

Product Development Engineer - Electrical Design

Product Development Engineer – Electrical Design

SUMMARY OF ROLE

The Flex module development team is responsible for creating, developing, validating, and transitioning new, flexible PV product designs into production.   In addition, we are developing and integrating various types of electrical control strategies to utilize the PV generated power for devices ranging from LED lighting to multi-KW refrigeration systems operating on different types of vehicles.  The PV power is typically delivered to a battery or similar storage unit so knowledge about lead-acid and Li-Ion battery systems is essential.  This position requires a strong understanding of the fundamentals of electrical system components and design, power electronics, interconnection methods, and the principles of photovoltaics.  The ideal candidate is a savvy electrical engineering designer who enjoys a challenge in a new product space where your technical skill, creativity, and execution are valued.  It is essential for the person to be able to independently design control circuits, build prototypes, validate performance, organize data, draw conclusions and present results in clear written and verbal formats.  Projects will involve careful upfront planning, managing supporting resources, and applying a hands-on approach.  We are looking for someone who can manage multiple tasks, thrives in a collaborative environment, and understands the fast-paced dynamic nature of the solar PV business. The candidate should be ready to lead project teams and understands the importance of meeting commitments while managing to a prioritized schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Develop electrical designs which include detailed schematics, cable routing diagrams, assembly drawings and bills of materials
  • Analyze the power, current, and voltage characteristics of systems that are powered by PV in conjunction with other conventional power sources such as diesel generators, grid connections, etc.
  • Ensure safe operation is designed in from the beginning along with meeting appropriate industry or government regulations
  • Conduct engineering assessment for buy versus make for control electronics. Decisions to “make” control electronic functions would be guided from design through validation by this individual
  • Flexible module performance characterization using IV, EL, IR, etc to understand design limits under different conditions and prepare for advancements with next-generation products
  • Conceptualize, plan, execute, and analyze experiments in the laboratory as well as on operating systems in the field
  • Manage/coordinate third-party contract manufacturing or development partners during early concept review through high volume production
  • Prepare and deliver executive presentations to clearly describe technical status, risks, and mitigation strategies

EXPERIENCE:    

  • Multiple project development experiences where a deep understanding of electrical component, system, and interconnection methods have been demonstrated. Strong EE fundamentals
  • Knowledge and experience with power electronics (1-5 kWh) and PCB design/layout are required. Proficiency with AutoCad and PCB CAD tools is important
  • Experience with automotive electronics and battery technology is a strong plus
  • Experience designing and building integrated electronic systems is a strong benefit. This experience can come from professional, hobbyist, or academic backgrounds
  • Solid understanding of DC and AC systems along with the physics of PV cell operation
  • Knowledge and experience conducting relentless analysis leading to cost and value optimization
  • Examples of optimizing design projects for consumer or personal use where form, fit, and usability were just as important as the technical performance
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct hands-on design, build, and test of electrical control systems
  • Familiarity with applicable design standards including UL/NEC/NFPA, IEEE/ANSI and others
  • Worked in an environment using a formal Product Development Process to define and then execute a new product introduction

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree program or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a similar field.

Process Engineer Level 2

Process Engineer 2 – New Product Introduction (NPI)

Position Summary:

The NPI team is responsible for the successful transfer of current and future technology generations from development to manufacturing. This is a highly technical job. This position interfaces and works with manufacturing, sustaining engineering, yield engineering, equipment engineering,  technology and product development, reliability engineering for successful introduction and evolution of manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Review, exercise and revise existing operational procedures and documents
  • Review data sets available from development, identify missing pieces and drive for completion.
  • Develop monitoring procedures and reporting schemes with manufacturing, sustaining engineering and development.
  • Flag problems (process centering, yield etc) and drive solutions through appropriate groups.
  • Support manufacturing team and operations through issues and escalations during the transition phase.
  • Lead and own improving and sustaining process of MHT technology
  • Act as liaison between R&D and production for current and future technology

Required Skills, Experience and Education:    

  • Bachelor’s / Masters Degree in Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar. Advanced Degree is preferred.
  • 2-4 years in a technically related role, preferably in solar, semiconductor, or similar industry
  • Excellent data analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Good understanding of SPC in a manufacturing environment including analysis and implementation
  • Proficient in writing and presentation of corrective action, process pass down, data reporting, procedures and documentation
  • DOE and statistical analysis application using a statistical software program (such as JMP) is a plus
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with ability to stay focused on multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Bilingual in Mandarin is a plus
  • Experience with Vacuum system and PVD process is a plus
  • Travel to China during factory start up is required

MiaSolé is looking for a talented software engineer who has extensive experience working with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and integrating with tool software using PLC for data/fault collection and WIP tracking. A successful candidate is self-motivated and proficient with manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Business Analyst and Program Manager to understand the functional requirement and map it to product configuration in Miasole MES and FIS (Factory Information System) Framework.
  • Interpret existing MES/FIS Architecture design and work with Development Manager and Lead in the generation of a technical design that meets customer requirements and solution goals.

Candidates will design, execute, and complete projects with a focus on experimentation for development and production deposition systems.  This includes rigorous statistical analysis of experiments as well as data evaluation of historical datasets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop process conditions to achieve optimal device performance of thin film solar cells through experimentation on development and manufacturing pilot process equipment.
  • Identifies opportunities for device and materials performance improvements through novel methods and clear process development paths
  • Support and drive the effective transfer of a lab scale ideas to manufacturing capable processes
  • Support manufacturing engineering and technical teams. Focusing on solar cell characterization, cell efficiency detractors and the creation/review of procedures, policies, and responses.

This is a technical leadership position to design, execute, and complete projects with a focus on detailed experimentation for development and production deposition systems.  This includes rigorous statistical analysis of experiments as well as data evaluation of historical datasets.  The candidate will be well versed in vacuum deposition systems and methods with the capacity to provide design limits for equipment that meet process goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leadership, planning, and execution of detailed structured experiments on development and manufacturing process equipment.
  • Correlation of solar cell device performance to deposition process conditions and physical properties of thin film materials.
  • Characterization of thin film solar materials using both material analysis and solid state device characterization methods.
  • Support/mentoring of manufacturing engineering and technical teams. Focus on detractors to cell efficiency with creation/review of procedures, policies, and failure responses
  • Troubleshooting of development and worldwide manufacturing processes

This position generally involves processing production material and performing maintenance on the production equipment.  This position will have a variety of tasks at a number of material processing stations.  The successful candidate should be willing and able to perform many different types of tasks and work effectively.

  • Follow production recipes and keeping detailed production records using paper and electronic forms

  • Performs technical tests and experiments on solar modules and cells for process engineers
  • Performs set up of processing equipment
